Painting process
What inspires me is the esthetics, the forms and most of all the colors. The creation process starts from a theme, a cultural aspect that I have seen or read about. I gather as many information and pictures as I need, landscapes, plants, animals, people, costumes, jewelry, ceremonies... I never do preparation sketches, I draw directly on canvas and let my feeling guide my hand. I usually start with a face, which may change through the process. Then I draw lines separating different spaces both in the face and in the background. These lines define the geometry of my portraits, and may evolve during the process of painting. Finally, I choose the dominant colors of the painting. The colors are a big part of my work; they make me involved in my work and give me the inspiration through the process of creation. To keep the intensity of the colors I apply oil paint directly from the tube on the canvas, without mixing them previously, which gives them brightness and permits to keep the raw energy of the color and to give a positive feel to my paintings, a higher vibration. The colors carry me through the creation, and give soul to the paintings, while the use of geometric shapes expresses the different facets of ourselves. I think of it like a crystal ever developing itself, growing in straight lines and constructing the portrait piece by piece, like the atoms organizing themselves into structures creating the matter that makes us, and like all of us organize into structures that make the various cultures and societies on the planet, and ultimately the humanity.
