Here she is surrounded by a plant of papyrus which is a symbol of wisdom. Her dress is like waves of river Nile, over her head is the sun and in between them...

Bahia, a region of north-est of Brazil. The background is inspired by the colorful fasades of Salvador. Plants around are the one I've saw in a park. The woman is dressed in Afro Brazilian traditional dress and you can see woman dress like this all over Salvador.

Inspiration can come from anywhere. This painting isn't a part of my far away trips, but a bit closer to the home. I stumbled on this branch in a park and it had the moss that looked like corals in the sea. This portrait is a painting of that simple little branch.

GEISHA

I loved this Japanese box in my house when I was little. It had a geisha on top of it that looked like a magical creature from a fairytale. When I started painting portraits, one of my first one was a geisha, so it comes to no surprise that I start this series exactly with a geisha.
